Abstract
The long known Neogene intergrowth of the bryozoan Celleporaria palmata (Michelin) and the coral Cryptangia woodii Milne-Edwards & Haime is described as a mutualistic symbiosis. The coral gives protection to the bryozoan and profits itself from food-currents originated by the bryozoan. Moreover, the association may be a better competitor for space on hard substrates. This mutualistic association is comparable to that described by McKinney et al. (1990) for a Devonian intergrowth of the bryozoan Leioclema and the coral Aulopora.
