Abstract
The contamination of estuarine sediments like marshes, meadows and underwater depositions is determined by the supply of contaminated sludge from rivers, the supply of relatively clean sediments from the sea and possible local discharges. In this report the river input portion is assessed, the estuarine processes that influence this input, and the processes after sedimentation in the estuary. Special attention goes to the areas that are influenced by the Schelde, Rhine, Maas and Eems rivers.
