Examines the cross sectional stability of tidal channels in the Western Scheldt Estuary. Investigates a number of empirical relationships for the Western Scheldt, whereby the channel cross section is related to a variety of tidal parameters such as velocity, tidal discharge, tidal prism, bottom shear stress, Chezy coefficient etc. Extensive field data (velocity measurements etc.), are used, and regression analysis between morphological and hydraulic parameters carried out. Also studies stability shear stress for combined wave/current conditions. Presents the correlation coefficients (flood and ebb) found for regression between various flow parameters and the cross sectional area. These generally range form 0.95 to 0.99. (C.J.U.)
