The purpose of this study was to analyze the composition and abundance of the zooplankton as well as the spatial and temporal variation in the Zempoala Lake in the State of Morelos. Monthly samples were taken from August 1996 to July 1997 in six stations at level of 1, 2.5 and 5 meters deep in the first three stations. A total of 25 species belonging to the Copepoda, Cladocera and Rotifera were identified. During the study, the abundance presents two increments, in September and February. Tropocyclops prasinus was the most constant species, Daphnia laevis the dominant species; Asplanchna sieboldi the occasionally species and, Filinia terminalis, Hexarthra mira and Rotoria nuptunia the rare species. In the Lake, Leptodiaptomus cuautemoci was recorded as an endemic species to the region. Spatial temporal variation of Kellicotia bostoniensis shows that was common during the annual cycle of sampling but with preference to fall below 2.5 m deep, mainly from October to March. The statistical analysis of classification (Cluster) brings together physical, chemical and biological variables into two groups, rainy and dry seasons; the latter is divided into two subgroups: dry-cold and dry-heat. In general, the Zempoala Lake is distinguished as a warm monomictic ecosystem with oxygenated water, soft and mesotrophic.
